How well do you really know a person?

We are all familiar with the proverbs, “You cannot judge a book by its cover,” and, “Things are not always as they appear.” Humans are not black or white. We are all a mixture of light and shadow. The truth disappears into infinite gradations of grey.

This film explores the duality of an individual as they explore their shadow side by choosing the alternate lifestyle of BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Sadism and Masochism). This lifestyle choice is juxtaposed with qualities of their light side, which includes philanthropy.

If you learn that someone you know possesses these dualities, are you capable of accepting the whole person? Are you able to look within and own your own shadow?
